About
Hi! My name is Adam Nelson, and I run a computer and music business here in the Flathead Valley. Born and raised here in the Flathead, I have found it very hard to leave. I thought I would create a technical blog for my customers, friends and family to discuss the world of technology. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say! Blog Away!

I have noticed that gone are the days of the walkman (tape player) and even the days of the DiscMan although some models still try to stay current. Many people really love the IPOD for its identity, and I myself even use one, but I have found that many people don't realize what they are holding onto. For those who are not technically inclined a standard IPOD has a small PCMCIA sized Hard Drive that stores all your data and songs. It almost sickens me watching some of the commercials of people dancing and jumping around with there IPOD's, because as I technician I know that G shock is one of the worst things for Hard Drives. I have had a few units come into my shop that were damaged by either dropping or other shock damage. I do not recommend an IPOD for those who are doing something that has a high shock value where your IPOD is tossed about. If you want an IPOD for doing that, I would recommend an IPOD Shuffle or MP3 Player with Flash Memory. That way it is not affected by shock other than if you were to jump up and down on it and crush it. They may not hold as much as the 30 to 60 GB IPOD's, but nothing angers somebody more than when their IPOD Shows the Folder with Exlamation screen, meaning "My Hard Drive stopped Working". Remember if you have an IPOD that has a Hard Drive in it. Be gentle with it and Don't shake and jar it constantly, or it may end up giving up the ghost on you. Would you take your laptop and jump up and down with it? Most people I know would say no, but the main item you are worried about in a laptop failing by shock damage is the Hard Drive. Remember a Flash Style MP3 Player (or IPOD Shuffle) is a lot more sturdy. If you plan on constantly jogging, skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, or other active sports with your MP3 Player it is best to get something solid state with no Hard Drive. If your looking for something you just want to carry around and it most of the time just lays there, you would be safe to invest in a IPOD with Hard Drive. I put this out there, because I know of a couple people who ended up with $300 dollar paperweights. :)Core 2 Duo
If you are going to be buying a new machine, there is one component I would recommend being a part of it. The latest processor from Intel is just incredible. It comes in many different forms, sporting 2 meg cache on some and 4 on others, but all of them are fantastic. I actually use to mainly sell AMD processors, because they were faster, but the judges are in, and I would suggest this processor over any of the others. Check out some of the reviews etc.Toms Hardware
